Gaiters can be very effective in keeping out sand and dirt and keeping you blister free at a RacingThePlanet Ultramarathon. Gaiters are not mandatory but highly recommended. The gaiters that work best are those that are sewn onto a shoe. Ankle gaiters can keep some debris out of your shoes but are not as effective as the gaiters sewn onto the shoes.
